HairCare Regimen/Staple Products

Yes I know I am so late getting this out, but my products don’t change too often, so you haven’t missed anything. With that being said I am just going to jump right into it, don’t forget to check out my video as well for more information.

In the past, I always alternated hot oil treatments and deep conditioning, week to week, but now I do them on the same week. I do prefer to deep condition over night, that is unless I am using coconut oil for my hot oil treatment, then I like using that as an overnight treatment instead. I generally wash my hair once a week. In the warmer months I co-wash SOMETIMES in between my weekly washes.

Now on to the products:

It’s a Review: Cantu Shea Butter for Naturals Deep Treatment Masque

So I am back with another review, on the Cantu Shea Butter for Naturals Deep Treatment Masque.

DTM

I after I did my last review on the Cantu for Naturals line, I couldn’t wait to try out the rest of the line; first up was the Deep Treatment Masque.

I picked this up from my local CVS, for about $8.99, which was right in the price range for CVS. I definitely could have gotten it cheaper at Wal-Mart for about $6.99, however, my local Wal-Mart was completely sold out. But it was OK; it was still under $10, which is still a great price for a deep conditioner that is in a 12oz jar.

When it comes to Deep conditioners for my hair I always look for one that are thick and creamy, and this Deep Conditioner checks out in that area. This product contains No Mineral Oil, Sulfates, Parabens, Silicone, Phthalates, Gluten, Paraffin, Propylene, PABA or DEA.

When I first used it, I applied it to freshly washed hair. I felt like as I applied it melted my strands and I was able to get A LOT of detangling done. I left it in overnight and paired it with my heat therapy wrap (you can use a warm towel as a substitute), once I rinsed, my hair felt soft and moisturized and more manageable. I’ve used this deep conditioner numerous times at a minimum of 30 minutes and achieved the same results.

Pros:

  • Moisturizing
  • Left my hair feeling soft
  • Can detangle with it
  • Can be used as a leave in conditioner (per directions)
  • Relatively free of harsh ingredients and other chemicals

I don’t really have any cons. I enjoyed it and I will definitely pick it up again.

Make sure you guys go check out my YouTube Video where I have a giveaway going on for the product!!!

My Thoughts on Protective Styling

So started a protective style challenge back in September 2012. It was originally not on purpose, LOL, I just realized I spent the whole month of September in constant protective styles, so I decided just to continue doing so. My goal was to keep my hair in protective/low manipulation hair styles until my 2 year Naturalversary (which was April 9th, 2013).

Once I started my PSC, I was kind of bored. In the beginning all I was doing was different variations of the Marley Bun…LOL. Which don’t get me wrong I love my Marley Bun, but I just couldn’t justify doing that for the next 6 months…LOL. So eventually I stopped thinking about and just did styles as I thought of them, as you will see some examples below.
Protective StyleCollage

I did give my hair a break a day or two, here and there. Just to give my edges and nape a break as well. Also, before I decided to start my challenge, I already had a scheduled heat pass for October, for Fernando’s birthday, which I still took; at that time I blew out my hair (pictured below). It’s a Review: Cantu Shea Butter for Naturals [+Giveaway] (CLOSED)

Cantu

First, I would like to say thank you to Cantu for contacting me to try these products out. Everyone knows that the Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Conditioner has been a staple in my hair regimen since before I even went natural and I swear by it to this day.

So I was given the opportunity to try out 3 out of the 6 Cantu Shea Butter for Naturals hair products. I was sent the Moisturizing Curl Activator Cream, Coconut Curling Cream and the Coconut Milk Shine & Hold Mist. All of these products contain No Mineral Oil, Sulfates, Parabens, Silicone, Phthalates, Gluten, Paraffin, Propylene, PABA or DEA. These products are very inexpensive retailing way under $10 and very accessible. I did a review and demo on my YouTube Channel, which you can check out here. I just want to go through and some of my pros and cons on each product.

It’s a Review: Ouidad Curl Co-Wash Conditioner

I was contacted my a representative of Ouidad, and was given the opportunity to try out their new Curl Co-Wash Conditioner (Sulfate, Silicone & Paraben Free).

This product is described as being, a rich low-lathering, sulfate-free cleansing conditioner that leaves the hair moisturized , soft and frizz-free while gently clearing hair of buildup.  It is for all hair types and textures.

It contains Black Cumin Seed Oil, Jamaican Black Oil, Rosemary & Sage Oils. Which these oils are great for conditioning and refreshing the hair and also delivers great shine.

I co-washed my hair in six sections. I allowed it to sit in my hair for about 5 mins or so, then detangled with my double detangler (which is also by Ouidad) , and rinsed my hair out. **NOTE: The double detangler was purchased by myself over a year ago. I have spoken on it before in the past and you guys know I LOVE that comb

I absolutely enjoyed this co-wash conditioner. It was fairly easy to detangle, which was a  pleasant surprise. Once I rinsed it out, my hair felt soft and have a nice sheen to it. The lather was less than a shampoo, but more than a regular conditioner, I would say it is a happy medium, especially if you are more into co-washing (and not into shampooing). I feel like my hair and scalp were both clean but was not stripped.

List of Ingredients: Aqua (Water/Eau), Sodium Lauroamphoacetate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Chloride, Hydroxypropyl Starch Phosphate, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Nigella Sativa Seed Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Oil, Fragrance/Parfum, Citric Acid, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Limonene, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone

Pros:

  • Smells great
  • Has a pump
  • Very Thick & Creamy
  • Great Slip
  • Leaves my hair with a nice sheen

Cons:

  • The Price. Even though I personally don’t mind the price, I know a lot of people aren’t looking to spend that much. There are other products I have used to co wash with that give me similar results. But that low-lather in a conditioner is very rare to come by. If you are someone who co-washes daily, it may not be economical option.

Other than the price I actually really like This product. I will definitely continue to use it here and there until it is done, however I don’t think I will be repurchasing it, strictly because of the price. But if I do ever want to splurge, this is something DEFINITELY worth splurging for.

Disclaimer: This product was sent to me for review. I am not affiliated with this company. I am NOT being paid to make this video. This is my honest opinion on this product.

A Trip through My Wash Day!! (Deep Condition Week)

So I skipped wash day last week so it’s been about 13 days since my last wash and I think it is about that time!

YUP, a Hot mess!! LOL…But that’s ok, nothing a little deep conditioning can’t handle.

But since I went so long with out washing, I decided to do an Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse before I shampooed. Some do this before they shampoo, I’ve seen people do it after they’ve shampooed and conditioned, but for me since I really only like the ACV rinse to cleanse my scalp and I am NOT fond of the smell so,I do it first. Review: CircleLens.net

I was very interested in finding some colored contacts, but having astigmatism it was very hard because you can only wear toric lens.  Growing up I’ve never worn colored contacts because I wasn’t really interested and honestly finding some suited for my condition was hard so I never bothered.
